Weeping Tile Calgary

Weeping tile is the first line of defense against a wet basement.

New Home Construction and Residential Repairs

Exterior weeping tile and stone should be installed on every home at new construction. Many homes, especially older homes, are built without weeping tile. This makes the home susceptible to pooling water down at the footing, which eventually builds volume and pressure to push into the home. This cause seepage at the floor wall joint and through floor cracks and floor penetrations.

There are three options for a weeping tile system, exterior, interior and both. All options are good options. For new homes, they should all be built with exterior weeping tile and stone as standard practice. For existing homes, the repair can be completed from the outside with weeping tile and stone or have an interior weeping tile system (WaterTrek) installed. The advantage of doing the outside repair is that we get an opportunity to re-dampproof the foundation walls. The downside is the exterior repair is expensive and very disruptive, especially for inner city homes. If the foundation walls are in good shape, we recommend the interior WaterTrek system as it is less expensive, less disruptive but equally effective in controlling seepage at the floor-wall joint and relieving subfloor water pressure issues.

Interior Weeping Tile (WaterTrek)

WaterTrek is an effective way to control water seepage at the floor-wall joint. Watertrek is a relatively non-invasive way to install a subfloor weeping tile system in existing homes.

WaterTrek system works with a Sump Pump (see WaterGrabber)

Exterior Weeping Tile & Stone

Weeping tile is a necessary part of waterproofing a basement at new home construction stage. It collects pooling water at the base of the footing level and drains it to a sump pump before it builds enough pressure to push into the home.

Weeping tile is a 4" perforated, flexible pipe, wrapped in a filter fabric sock. It is installed on the exterior of the home, around the perimeter of the strip footing pad. The weeping tile is then covered with 40mm drain rock.

Foundation Wall Protection

Damp-proofing the foundation walls is the first part in waterproofing a basement. For the most protection, we recommend a two-step process.

Foundation Spray: CCMC-approved, spray-applied waterproofing membrane

DMX Air Gap Membrane: DMX Wrap is made from an impact enhanced high density polyethylene compound. The dimpled sheeting creates an air gap to alleviate hydrostatic pressure against foundation walls, allowing water to drain straight down to the weeping tile system at the foundation footing.
